New Look for Woodland Celebration Quilt

This custom quilt was made for a client who loved our Woodland Celebration Quilt, but wanted a different palette to complement the colours in her son's nursery. She chose to go with dusty aqua and cream borders with red accents as opposed to the light aqua and bright white borders with tangerine accents of the original Woodland Celebration.

She loves the results and so do we! Becky was particularly pleased to finally use the Stripey Red fabric for a quilt binding—a plan she has been plotting for a while now!

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and mothers-to-be!

Off to One of a Kind Toronto We Go

This morning we are packing up Becky's car and headed west for Toronto. We were lucky enough to be chosen for the Etsy section of Toronto's One of a Kind Show. If you are in the Toronto area this week, please check out this amazing artisan show--the biggest in Canada, I believe.
These are a few of the goodies we'll be bringing. They are available in our shop, of course. Any orders placed while we are away will start shipping on April 4th.

Patchwork Baby Name Quilts for Twins

One of our favourite customers has a tradition of giving a patchwork name quilt to the new babies in her life. This month she welcomed twin nieces with two lovely organic quilts.

The quilts feature complementary colour schemes in grey, pink, purple, and green with dashes of black and white. The results are stunning!

One of the many pleasures of putting together a custom quilt is going through the process of choosing colour schemes, fabrics, and threads with the customer. From beginning to end there are many choices to be offered and made. Here I'll show you the very last decision that was made—the binding.

For Juliette's green quilt, the binding choice was easy. It had to be the bright green!

But for Alice's purple quilt the perfect binding wasn't so obvious.

Becky offered our customer three choices, which we felt were all good options.

There was the soft grey...

The black and white floral print...

And the crisp grey print...

All the choices were good, but lent the quilt a slightly different flavour, if you will.

We had our favourite... which would you have chosen?

Our customer went for the wow-factor and picked our favourite... the elegant and striking Whispering Grass by Harmony Art Organic Design.

And it looks amazing! They both do.

Congratulations to the new family and the new auntie! We hope Alice and Juliette have very sweet dreams under their cozy quilts.

Wonders of Winter

Last week I brought my sewing machine to the good people at Giroux Sewing Centre in Cornwall, Ontario for repairs. Cornwall lies on the shore of the St Lawrence River and as I drove in to town along Montreal St. I admired the old stone farmhouses on one side of the road, but I was stunned by the beauty of the river on the other side. There was a lovely white mist over the water and all around it the snow, ice, and water sparkled in the bright sun.

It was very cold, about -28 C (or -18 F),  and Becky tells me that this mist is called ice fog.

I've never seen or noticed ice fog before (I grew up in the city where one tends to miss out on such wonders) and it took my breath away... or maybe that was the crazy cold air! Nevermind, it was lovely and I braved the biting cold to snap a few photos.

Belated New Year's greetings and some news

Is it too late to say Happy New Year? I hope not. It's been a while since we've posted, so Happy New Year!

We have two exciting things to share today. The first thing is we got word on Monday that we were accepted as participants in the One of a Kind Toronto Spring Show & Sale. We'll be part of a special section showcasing Canadian Etsy shops from March 27-31 and we are sooooo thrilled! Now we need to get very busy stocking up so we have oodles of goodies to bring to Toronto!

Our Toronto-bound goodies will surely include some items from our newest organic fabric collection, called Camp Modern from Birch Fabrics, which is the second bit of news we want to share. This is a gorgeous campy retro collection featuring woodsy motifs and campers. We love it!

Log Cabin Quilt in Indigo

This custom Log Cabin style quilt was made for a customer who wanted something special as a gift for her husband. Becky used authentic Indigo cotton from South Africa with organically-grown, naturally-dyed charcoal cotton for the center squares, binding and backing.

The results were simply stunning. After much deliberation over the arrangement of the squares, our client chose a classic Straight Furrows design, which gives an overall effect of diagonal stripes across the top of the quilt.

Becky quilted it in a simple, yet beautiful, straight line design.

We oohed and aahed over this one every day until it was done and we had to let it go and send it off to our client and her very lucky husband.

We're both plotting and planning Log Cabin quilts of our own now....

We love baby pictures. We especially love baby pictures with adorable little ones all wrapped up in our handcrafted organic goodness! This is sweet baby Wade and his Woodland Party Blanket.

This is Wade wrapped up in his Hooded Towel.

And this is Wade looking adorable in his bouncy chair.
