Flowery Baby Name Quilt

Floral organic whole cloth baby quilt by Organic Quilt Company

Becky made this simple and sweet whole cloth quilt this past summer for a September baby.

The crib quilt is backed with our warm and soft organic cotton flannel.

Every letter is a different colour, which adds a touch of fun to the quilt.

I love the aqua binding on this floral quilt as it keeps it from being super girly. Not that there's anything wrong with super girly!

Happy Friday to you.

  1. I love this. The colours and simple design work perfectly for this fabric. A flannel back will be beautiful and soft. Did you use a batting or just the flannel and top fabric?

  2. We agree with you Karen; our client's choice of fabrics for the top, binding, and letters work wonderfully together. Becky uses organic cotton batting for most quilts, including this one.

    1. Hobbs is the only company I can find which makes organic cotton batting. They make it with and without a scrim, but I have found it to be very thin. Do you use Hobbs? If so, with or without scrim? Are organic quilts often backed with flannel to make them warmer and thicker due to Hobbs batting being so thin?

    2. We have enjoyed working with both brands of Hobbs organic batting. The scrim does allow for slightly less dense quilting (check package recommendations for details) and the scrim-free batt is very nice for hand quilting. If you’d like a thicker batt in your quilts, you could always try using a double layer of batting — just be sure to baste well! We choose to back the majority of our quilts with organic flannel mainly because it is so soft and cozy and we think it is perfect for babies (Canadian winters can be awfully chilly!), but indeed it does also add a little extra warmth and heft to our quilts. Good luck!
