Charley Harper Dot Quilt à la King

I think Becky will always remember 2014 as the "Year of the Dot Quilt." She has made several of them this year. This big beauty is for a king size bed and is currently in transit to its happy owner.

It has an organic cotton sateen top with organic pewter flannel backing and border. The dots are made mostly from the Charley Harper collection from Birch Fabrics.

Becky hand-stitched a circle outline around each dot in grey thread and  all around the inside edge of the sateen front as well.

Point Blanket Quilt in Blue

This handsome queen sized quilt was made for a boy's room. It's a variation on our Point Blanket Quilt, using organic fabrics.

The threads used for quilting over the stripes are colour-matched to the stripes.

This picture shows how the different thread colours add subtle interest to the reverse side of the quilt.

Sometimes simple is beautiful.

Sweet Floral Quilt for a Spring Baby.

This Friday's featured custom quilt is a sweet and delicate take on our popular Dots Quilt.

Our client was expecting a baby girl in the spring and wanted the quilt in time for newborn photos. She chose two complementary feminine floral prints in organic cotton voile.

Becky hand stitched the dots to ivory organic cotton sateen and backed the quilt with one of the pretty floral prints. She added a circle of rustic hand stitching in pewter-colour thread to frame the circles.

Straight-line quilting bordered the edges of the quilt and the organic cotton aqua binding was hand-stitched, of course!

The quilting looks lovely on the sweet print of the backing.

What a lovely heirloom quilt to keep and pass down through the family.

Colours Pop on Custom Quilt

This stunning custom quilt has a wonderful story to go with it. Our client adopted a boy from Niger and asked Becky to make something special with the beautiful fabrics she brought back from Africa.

The client wanted the quilt made in the style of our Woodland Celebration quilt and the results are fantastic. The busy patterns and strong bright colours pack quite a punch. The white sashing, solid colour strips and dark charcoal border give the eye places to rest and bring the beautiful African fabrics together.

The orange dotted backing fabric is just right for this unique and beautiful lap-sized quilt.

There's Something Fishy Going On.

I don't believe in making New Year's resolutions. No one ever seems to keep them and the ticking over from one calendar year to the next hardly seems like a good reason to make a change. I am, however, resolving to list one quilt a week. Becky has been so busy with gorgeous custom quilts all this year and I've clearly been busy doing everything but blogging! I think Becky's made enough quilts and other beautiful things that I can show you a different quilt every week until 2015, and beyond. Here goes... wish me luck!

This beauty is a queen-sized organic cotton quilt made for a lucky 3 year-old boy. It's made from a variety of printed and solid organic fabrics from Birch Fabrics.

The client opted to mix and match fabrics from different collections and they come together wonderfully. The fancifully fishy Playing Koi fabric from the Eiko Collection features prominently. It's my favourite fabric this year. I tried to come up with a sewing project I could make for myself with it, but we ran out of Playing Koi before I managed it.

The simply pieced backing and the difference in the spacing of the quilting over the blocks add enough interest to make this a reversible quilt.

A pair of quilted pillow shams will dress up the boy's bed perfectly.

Warm Colours and Simple Style

This is a custom organic cotton king-sized quilt that Becky made in the spring. But the colours seem just right for fall to me, so I thought I'd post it today.

Every custom quilt has a different story. The reasons people have for wanting a special quilt are varied and always interesting to us. We love the back story of each quilt and will share these with you whenever we can.

This client had a spectacular arched window in her bedroom that required custom drapery. She had gorgeous brown silk curtains with a floral embroidery pattern made to fit the window and she wanted something elegant, simple, and organic for her bed that would complement, but not compete with her curtains.

The plum meandering stitch in the centre panel of the quilt provides enough interest so that the quilt isn't boring, but over all the quilt is simple enough that it does not distract from or clash with the intricate pattern of the client's curtains. Simply gorgeous, if you ask me!
