Organic Quilt Co. Featured in Quilter's World Magazine

We are thrilled that one of our organic quilts is featured in the April issue of Quilter's World Magazine in an article titled The Organic Cotton Difference.

The article explains why organic cotton farming practices are more environmentally sound than conventional ones and encourages quilters to choose organic fabrics.

Also mentioned in the article are some of our favourite organic fabric suppliers — Birch Fabrics, Harmony Art and Cloud 9. We used fabrics from both Harmony Art and Cloud 9 to make the Sea Glass quilt that's pictured in the article.

It's nice to see that awareness of organic fabric is growing. There are beautiful organic options available, and while they cost more than conventional fabrics, we think they are absolutely worth it.

Kaleidoscope of Colour in April's Quilt

Our friend April, owner of Anointment Natural Skin Care, had a problem that we were only too pleased to help her with. She started working on a quilt for herself a while back, but the myriad demands of a full life sidetracked her project. Wanting very much to finish the quilt, but knowing that with a third child on the way it might be years before she got it done, she decided to let Becky put it together for her.

Becky finished piecing the quilt top, layered it over organic batting and sumptuous organic flannel, then machine quilted it with variegated thread.

April chose fabric from Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks collection for the bulk of the quilt and a mermaid print from Heather Ross for the border. The effect is spectacular!
On her blog, April writes that she's going to bring the quilt with her to the hospital to keep her cozy during labour. We're so delighted that we could help her bring this fabulous quilt to life as she prepares for the far more important task of bringing a new life into the world.

Another New Fabric Collection

Monaluna has come out with another gorgeous retro-style fabric collection called Circa 60 Beach Mod and we've been having a ball with it! These are perfect for families who aren't into traditional pastel colours.
There are groovy fabrics in  brown, orange and yellow— the one featuring ukuleles and suns is a favourite with us because we know a ukulele player or two and it's just so whimsical.

But we're also very fond of Happy Summer (as seen below), Happy Camping, and Tree Meadow. The cheerful retro aesthetic of these fun organic fabrics is sure to please everyone in the family. It's sure got us smiling!

Spring has sprung early at OQC!

We are longing for spring here in Hudson, QC. We had a thaw a couple of weeks ago that reminded us of what's just around the corner weather-wise, and we simply can't wait.
Sure, it's raining today and the ice and snow are turning slushy, but we're still a long way off from seeing buds on the trees and robins digging for worms.

The good news is we've got a gorgeous new fabric line called Nature Walk from our friends at Cloud 9 to distract us. Becky has been sewing madly (as usual) and we're getting new products up on our Etsy shop almost every day.

The cheerful bright colours and playful designs are lifting our winter-weary spirits immensely!
